Welcome to our very first online series on Applied Theatre from Baltic Applied Theatre School (BATS)! In this series, we have interviewed theatre practitioners who have been working for decades with different communities and in different contexts. Each short video will tackle one aspect of Applied Theatre to give viewers an introductory knowledge about this rich and ever-expanding field. We will be sharing one video each month on our YouTube channel, so stay tuned!
This series includes:
1- On Applied Theatre: Kristina Werner, co-founder of BATS, a theatre maker and creative arts facilitator, talks about what Applied Theatre means to her and what purpose it plays in our societies. 2- Applied Theatre Projects in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania: In this video we hear about Applied Theatre projects that have happened in the Baltics presented by Aistė Ulubey, Katrin Nielsen, Ieva Niedre and Ilga Vālodze Ābele.
3- The Neuroscience behind Play: Kristina Werner shares insights regarding what happens in the brain when we play and why play is crucial for any innovation and therefore social change.
4- On Invitation in Applied/ Participatory Theatre: What to consider when inviting people to participate in an applied theatre project? Shir Freibach - a director, dramaturg, writer, translator and mentor working in performing and applied/participatory arts - offers practical tools that will help you overcome one of the biggest challenges in any project: getting people on board in an ethical and successful way.
5- Planning Collaborative Community Theatre Practice: In this video, Sue Mayo who is theatre maker, facilitator, researcher and co-director of the MA in Applied Theatre at Goldsmiths University, London, takes us through structures, planning styles, values of our work and much more based on her very rich and long experience in this field.
6- Evaluation in participatory arts projects: Mita Pujara has been working in socially engaged settings since 1996 as an artist, researcher and educator. In our final video of the series, Mita shares with us the different approaches and nature of evaluation, its importance but also its many challenges as an arts practice.

5- "Planuojant bendradarbiavimo bendruomenių teatro praktiką": Sue Mayo - teatro kūrėja, fasilitatorė, tyrėja bei viena iš Taikomojo teatro magistro studijų Londono Goldsmito universitete vadovių - pristato įvairias struktūras, planavimo stilius, profesines vertybes ir kt., kurios yra paremtos jos turtinga bei ilga praktika taikomojo teatro srityje.
6- "Vertinimas dalyvaujamųjų menų projektuose": Mita Pujara, nuo 1996-ųjų socialiai įtraukiose srityse dirba kaip menininkė, tyrėja ir edkuatorė. Paskutinėje ciklo dalyje Mita dalinasi skirtingomis vertinimo prieigomis, jo svarba bei iškylančiais sunkumais menų praktikoje.
